  • Winter Plaid Custom Dress Shirts - The Guide

Written by Jay on Dec 29, 2011

Soldiers have breastplates and kevlar. You've got plaid.

You may no longer have to kill off your cavemen enemies (we hope), but modern man has to brave the elements in between taxi rides and heated venues.

Not to forget, it's a historical fact (nay, holy truth!) that plaid shirts make you manly. So when the mercury dips, break out the plaid for a stylish shine on your modern day armor.

What makes for a perfect winter plaid?

    1) A fabric that holds up. You want something more substantial than your summer linens and seersucker.

    2) Darker colors. The days are shorter. Pick a plaid in more suavely somber tones, offsetting bright colors with deeper hues. For example, our Ojibwa print is the perfect wintry mix of bold blue and black.

    3) A little extra. Go beyond the average plaid, and pick something like our premium Niseko prints, which include a cold weather appropriate snowflake print.

You can find all the above fabrics in our "Make" section, where you can design your own custom mens shirt to a T.

Need inspiration? One of our customers designed the button down below, pairing a red houndstooth to create our favorite winter plaid shirt. Click to buy:
